Dropbox Security Flaw Highlights Need for Document Compliance

Tuesday, 12. April 2011

Boston, April 12, 2011 - The internet is currently seeing intense discussion among users concerning security issues in Dropbox, an online document storage service. The fact that authentication data can easily be copied from a user's computer to give other people access to confidential documents emphasizes once again the need for secure access procedures and reliable solutions to protect confidential documents on the Internet. Brainloop responds to this demand in three ways with its solutions for document compliance management (DCM): with a multi-level authentication procedure; personalized permissions that can be restricted to read-only if required; and an audit trail of all activities on the DCM platform. These features make the system both transparent and reliable.

Companies are increasingly running business processes on web-based systems. This is why the storage of confidential documents - which may contain strategic knowledge and information and are not freely available to everyone - calls for a completely new solution. This should be available as a Cloud-based service while guaranteeing a secure environment for collaboration and a way to manage sensitive content that complies with data protection and other regulations. Brainloop's document compliance solution provides protection for confidential content along with a secure way of sharing it with selected recipients and a multi-level log-in process. As a result, users can be sure that the confidential documents they are working on are secure, even if their computer falls into the wrong hands. The information can only be accessed using a second password that is texted to the user's cell phone and is only valid for a short time. All of the activities undertaken on the platform are logged in a tamper-proof audit trail. In addition, the documents stored on it are encrypted and - if required - automatically deleted at the end of their lifecycle. These features ensure that all requirements for secure document management are completely fulfilled.
"A company's strength depends on its knowledge and its capacity for innovation," says Peter Weger, CEO of Brainloop. "In a competitive global market, this type of information is coveted and can give rise to dishonest ways of acquiring it. This is why companies should ensure that the knowledge and information that will ensure that they survive and thrive is protected against industrial espionage and white-collar crime."
