Microsoft and Brainloop to deliver end-to-end security for confidential documents

Wednesday, 03. August 2005

Brainloop AG, the leading provider of solutions for secure management of confidential documents, today announced support for Microsoft Windows Rights Management Services - delivering an end-to-end solution enabling customers to control the entire lifecycle of confidential documents across the extended enterprise, without the need for proprietary client software.

The integrated solution is based on the Brainloop Secure Dataroom system, which controls access to confidential documents based on users' roles and responsibilities. Microsoft's Windows Rights Management Services (RMS) extend the protection of confidential documents to the desktop, so that organizational access policies defined in the Brainloop application can be enforced even after documents have been distributed. The specific usage rights for documents such as editing, printing, and forwarding to others can be defined on the server and enforced after download. Based on Brainloop's extranet architecture, this protection can be made available to users inside and outside the organization, providing effective and precise protection of confidential information across the extended enterprise. Brainloop's integrated audit-trail function is able to capture access to the documents and thus provide a seamless and complete documentation of corporate information flow. The combined solution will support a wide range of document formats, including Microsoft Office, Adobe PDF, and HTML.

"Our customers keep telling us that they want to enforce access policies and to capture usage history across the entire lifecycle of a confidential document," says Markus Seyfried, Chief Technology Officer, Brainloop AG. "With the integrated RMS solution we can offer genuine end-to-end security, helping our customers achieve important risk management and compliance management objectives."

"Customers are asking for integrated document security solutions that scale across the extended enterprise," says Piyush Lumba, Senior Product Manager in the Security Business and Technology Unit, Microsoft Corporation. "We are pleased that Brainloop has enabled the Secure Dataroom product to support Microsoft's RMS platform in order to make it easier for our customers to deploy the powerful protection features of RMS inside and outside the enterprise."

"By combining Brainloop Secure Dataroom and Microsoft RMS confidential documents can be encrypted in storage, during transmission, and after they have been downloaded onto individual notebooks or desktops," says Petter Bergström, Senior Security Architect, Microsoft Germany. "At the same time, customers do not have to install proprietary client software, but can leverage their existing investments into the Microsoft Office 2003 platform."
