Digital Rights Management - DRM Software from Brainloop

End-to-end protection for your most confidential documents

If you have very stringent security requirements, IRM technology will ensure that users have permission to download and read a document on their local computer, but not to print or forward it. A security policy  automatically converts Microsoft Office documents to PDFs and - if required - adds a watermark to them as well as the permissions management policies of Adobe LiveCycle or Microsoft Windows Rights Management Services (RMS). The document file is then encrypted and stored on the PC and contains information that stipulates what the user may do with it. If users open the document on their local PC, they must authenticate themselves on the IRM server and provide details of their read-only license, which is only valid for a limited time. This process is usually transparent for users and Acrobat Reader 9.0 or later executes it automatically. For users with older versions of the Acrobat Reader, the system opens the document in the Secure Document Viewer.

The IRM protection in Adobe LiveCycle includes an option that allows users to open a document in offline mode for a limited period. The user will need to assign a certificate generated by Brainloop to his or her profile, then use this certificate to validate the read-only license on the IRM server.

Secure document editing with Information Rights Management technology

The integration of Microsoft Windows Rights Management Services (RMS) and Adobe LiveCycle Server with the Brainloop application is also available for users who need to download a document securely, then make changes to it. This solution, a combination of the Brainloop workspace and the IRM technology, supports Microsoft Office and PDF formats. The IRM protection is dependent on the security category assigned to the relevant document and is generated automatically when the document is downloaded.

On the client side, Microsoft RMS functions are already included in newer versions of Microsoft Windows and no additional client software is necessary. The certificates and permissions needed for document access control are delivered by the server to the local computer.
